Tamsulosin, and other medications in the class called alpha blockers and It is an α_1a adrenergic receptor antagonist. So it work by relaxing bladder neck muscles and muscle fibers in the prostate itself and make it easier to urinate. Hence, decreases the urge to urinate repeatedly. Moreover it helps easy passage of urine.

Finasteride is a 5α-reductase inhibitor which prevents the conversion of the androgen sex hormone testosterone into the more potent dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Hence it helps to shrink the prostate and relieve the symptoms like difficulty in passing urine.
