How it Work

It works by blocking the creation of estrogen. Anastrozole is in the aromatase-inhibiting family of medications. In postmenopausal women, aromatase, an enzyme found in liver, fat, muscle, and breast cancer cells, changes androgens into the hormone estrogen. It is an aromatase inhibitor that works by blocking aromatase, lowering the amount of the potentially cancer-causing estrogen in the body.

Common side effects include; hot flashes, altered mood, joint pain, and nausea. Use during pregnancy is known to harm the baby. The bone weakness has been associated with anastrozole.
