Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that dilates (widens) blood vessels and improves blood flow. Amlodipineis used to treat chest pain (angina) and other conditions caused by coronary artery disease. Amlodipine is used in the management of hypertension and coronary artery disease (chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina, and angiographically documented CAD without heart failure or ejection fraction < 40%.). It can be used as either monotherapy or combination therapy for the management of hypertension or coronary artery disease.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic medication often used to treat high blood pressure and swelling due to fluid build up.Other uses include diabetes insipidus, renal tubular acidosis, and to decrease the risk of kidney stones in those with high calcium level in the urine. For high blood pressure it is often recommended as a first line treatment. HCTZ is taken by mouth and may be combined with other blood pressure medications as a single pill to increase the effectiveness.
